Last night I made the choice to watch the Democratic Debate on ABC. I have watched as many of the debates as I could, none of them have been great and last night was no exception. I do not expect any profound ideas, or insights into why a policy is good for the nation, I know that most of it is of the he said she said format. When they get to the real gems in the debate I have to get up run down the hall and tell Janessa what the ‘candidates’ just said. This happened last night and I am sure the downstairs neighbors were trying to figure out what was going on. This morning I am left trying to figure out how either of these people made a dime as lawyers.
While they were tossing around the subject of raising taxes Senator Clinton said “I'm going to have to look and see what the revenue situation is. You know, we now have the largest budget deficit we've ever had, $311 billion. We went from a $5.6 trillion projected surplus to what we have today, which is a $9 trillion debt.” Beside the point that there was never a 5.6 trillion surplus (which is why the word projected was used), she admits that she understands that there is a budget problem in Washington all the while talking about spending billions more. Here is the sad truth if the debt is 9 trillion and our yearly GDP is 13 trillion it is going to take years to pay the thing off, assuming we can stop going further into debt. This is not too bad on the ‘scratch your head’ scale, maybe around 5 or 6. It gets better.
Senator Obama a fervent opponent of the Iraq war said, “As I've said before, I think it is very important that Iran understands that an attack on Israel is an attack on our strongest ally in the region, one that we -- one whose security we consider paramount, and that -- that would be an act of aggression that we -- that I would -- that I would consider an attack that is unacceptable, and the United States would take appropriate action.” While there is wiggle room in there under the “appropriate action”, assume that Iran and Israel are going at it what is appropriate? Sanctions? We tried that with Hitler. Shoot a couple of missiles? There will be plenty already flying. Which leaves invasion of Iran, or at the least combat in Israel. Senator Clinton was worse, but I am an equal opportunity type person.
Going on to guns, Senator Clinton said, “What I favor is what works in New York. You know, we have a set of rules in New York City and we have a totally different set of rules in the rest of the state. What might work in New York City is certainly not going to work in Montana. So, for the federal government to be having any kind of, you know, blanket rules that they're going to try to impose, I think doesn't make sense.” But she wants to start mandating health care for the nation. Not to mention gun control, abortion, gay marriage, bank oversight, and on and on. She and the whole Democratic party are about more government, particularly at the federal level. You are right there Hillary leave all of these things to the States.
The two of them had more wholes in their logic than there are in swiss cheese. Then there were all of the “how do we make sure that we're providing ladders of opportunity for people?” Where in the constitution does it say that the Government should provide ladders of opportunity, where in the constitution does it say that anyone has a right to ladders of opportunity? It is not there! How about this; rather then try to provide ladders, get out of the way of people trying to make their own, if a person cant make their own, chances are they will fall off of it if you give it to them. Please don’t take this the wrong way we should help others. Remember the proverb, give the man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach the man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. (This does not mean give everyone a college education.)
And one last thought. Both of these people will not listen to you, they obviously didn’t listen to their mothers because they seem to think life should be fair.
